X-Ray manifestations of inflammatory processes in the maxillary sinuses caused by odontogenic factors

Arzhantsev A.P.

Acute and chronic odontogenic inflammatory processes in the maxillary sinuses arise due to inflammatory changes in the lateral sections of the alveolar process of the upper jaw and the errors in conducting dental manipulations. Correct interpretation of the state of the maxillary sinuses, taking into account the variants of the norm and pathology, is a difficult task. Therefore, when X-ray diagnosis is necessary to know about the shadow features of various manifestations of pathological pro-cesses and the effectiveness of X-ray techniques for the objective assessment of not only changes in the sinuses, but also to determine the causes of their occurrence. Known methods of orthopantomography and zonography of the middle zone of the face have definite limits of diagnostic capabilities in studying the state of the maxillary sinuses. CT of the maxillary sinuses and alveolar process of the maxilla is the method by reliable identification of pathological processes in the maxillary sinuses and differentiating odontogenic from rhinogenous sinusitis.
