To identify the causes of the formation and progression of angular deformity of the elbow joint in a child after a condyle head fracture without displacement of fragments.

Material and methods. The basis of the clinical observation was the case in a 13-year-old child of an uncomplicated fracture of the right humerus condyle. The patient initially sought help at the district hospital at the place of residence, then, as complications progressed, he was admitted to the consultative and diagnostic department of the hospital. An anamnesis was evaluated, a clinical study of the orthopedic status, its photofixation (with parental consent), assessment of the available radiographs of the right and left elbow joints (left for comparison) in standard projections: straight and lateral were performed.

Results. Angular deformation in the elbow joint with an angle open outwards relative to the body was revealed. This deformity occurred 1 month after the injury and progressed over several years of the child’s life. The cause of the deformation: damage to the growth zone during a condylar head fracture, the reason for the formation is the growth of the child and conservatism in medical tactics, the excessive demands of doctors on the ability to independently level the deformation in childhood.

Conclusion. In case of head fractures, the condyle of the humerus in childhood, specialists need to remember that the line of the fracture passed through the growth cartilage, therefore more active dynamic monitoring, radiological monitoring of the elbow joint on the injured side is more frequent than it was in this case from practice, will be the key to prevention and successful treatment such complications.
